Lord Fuxley
Really, poverty is a surfeit of riches. I have ended two recent days with 5p and 20p in my pocket, but I have spent recent days getting drunk at others’ expense, banking free meals and indulging my more craven desires. Actually I don’t know what craven means.
On the other hand, my complete collection of vinyl has already been liquidated in the pursuit of musical expression and now my CD collection is rapidly going the same way, only via eBay. Pleasantly surprised as I was to discover that someone was prepared to pay £69 for a rather dull disc, I still have to steel myself as I package and post other perfectly good albums for three pounds that will just about buy dinner.
There is a new movement afoot in Hastings, so new it has neither named itself nor been named, although I favour The Contrarists or perhaps contraritism. It was conceived somewhere between an unwise interaction with 70% proof shots, subsequent vomiting and a conversation that veered into depression then manic excitement. It will shine, my fine friends, unbound by genre or medium, briefly no doubt, and then it will die, but we will be all the wiser for it.
The hour of a revitalised PinPrick Records draws near too; but more of that later.
