THE BLACK TULIPS

Tris

A blur for recent weeks - images of flowers and a coffin, strains of Bowie's 'Prettiest Star,' and a new, final clarity about the album. Paranoia is ever present. Money melts away faster than drummers. This summer is very weird; clouds and silver linings, nothing is simple. A case in point was Thursday - the indignity of watching one's carefully constructed drum tracks collapse in stage vibration, standing fucked and feeding back in barely controlled concentrated rage, attended by the curiosity of breakdancing hecklers and the astonishing compensating rush of Alexandra's performance. Even in my stillness I saw her deliver 'I Don't Want You' locked in a bilious contortionist's arc and 'Criminal Mastermind' (tight and crushingly heavy despite/because of our onstage despair) as a wired stage-stalking dancer; though I failed to notice the breathtaking twist- and swinging round that pesky stage-inhibiting pole to the close of 'We The Lonely Ones' that by every account transfixed the entire venue. And then I walked outside and somebody else was getting a parking ticket.

I heartily recommend a listen to Stevie Wonder's 'Signed, Sealed, Delivered', by the way.
