When you receive a demo from any band that begins with the word “Black” and with a letter signed by names such as Lord Fuxley, Heidi Heelz and Ulysses, it’s a pretty sure sign that this is going to be something out of the ordinary. It also looks like the five piece may come from Hastings, a place famed for bloody battles, invasions and nasty things like arrows shot through the eyes. The enigmatic Alexandra provides the piercing / positive vocal lines – On “Just Keep Coming” these climb over the top of the splintering guitars – it all sounds like Bauhaus playing the Yeah Yeah Yeahs first album whilst consuming large amounts of absinth. The Black Tulips can damage ears with their voodoo induced swirl of sounds, whilst no doubt providing a bit of a spectacle. Cleverly fusing some quite hard rock to the wiry soundtrack is a masterstroke. No doubt volatile and highly combustible in person, this is a thoroughly recommended three tracker.
